Laundry service in Kensington
Living in Kensington
Period worker's cottages, converted industrial buildings, and newer apartment developments around the station. Macaulay Road and Bellair Street form a village strip with cafes and small businesses.
Kensington’s heritage streets (Ormond, McCracken, Barnett, Parsons, Lambeth, and Rankins Road) are lined with single-fronted Victorian and Edwardian weatherboard cottages, many with front verandahs and elevated entrances with steps up from the street. It’s a suburb of families, the highest proportion of couples with children in the City of Melbourne. These cottages have character but little room, and many were built without dedicated laundry rooms. The Macaulay Road corridor near the station is transforming fast, with major build-to-rent developments like Local: Kensington (nearly 500 apartments) bringing in a younger renting population. Kensington Banks along the Maribyrnong River adds about a thousand townhouses and apartments developed from the former Newmarket Saleyards. Between the cottage families and the new apartment renters, there’s growing demand for laundry pickup in Kensington.
For cottage pickups, access is straightforward: front door with a short verandah, ring the doorbell. Some have rear laneways behind the rows. The newer apartment buildings around Macaulay Road have intercom and fob access. Include your building name and access details when booking any apartment pickup.
